Sports fans across the country are getting excited about the 2012 Olympic Games being held in the UK for the first time since 1948, but people living in and around Belper are set to witness another unique sporting event this summer.
On Saturday, 21st July 2012, the Belper Games will descend on the town's rugby club and the day promises to be full of family fun and entertainment.
The main event will be an 'It's a Knockout' style tournament with inflatables and plenty of water to ensure teams have the most fun and offer spectators the best entertainment!
There will also be a huge craft fair and food festival and visitors will have an opportunity to browse the wide variety of local produce on offer. Plus, to keep youngsters entertained, there will a children's area with fairground rides, a bouncy castle and facepainting.
The Rugby Club will be providing a fully licensed bar throughout the event and attendees will be able to get snacks and other tasty treats from the onsite kitchen.
The event, which runs from 11am – 5pm will cost £2.50 for adults and £1 for children under 14 to attend, any funds raised will go towards Penny's Fund to help Belper scleroderma and pulmonary fibrosis suffer, Penny Wheeler pay for the lifesaving treatment she needs twice each year.
Speaking about the Belper Games, Penny's husband Nick said: "There hasn't been a huge family focused event in the town for a number of years now and we decided to organise the games as a way of bringing local people back together and giving everyone a fun and memorable day.
"Since we set up Penny's Fund in 2010 we've run a series of different fundraising events and we've received fantastic feedback and been encouraged run more. So far we've got some excellent stalls and activities planned for the games and we're urging anyone who wants to take part or hold a stall to get in touch, the bigger we can make the event the more enjoyable and memorable it will be."
The Belper Games will run from 11am – 5pm on Saturday, 21st July. For anyone interested in holding a stall at the event, should contact Kate Hall on 07967 311795.
