The chips here are average, there are better places in the town for chips. Also, they are completely over-priced for the amount you get. Look elsewhere!!

Certainly not the best fish and chips, batter not beer batter or even made on site, purchased from suppliers ready made, pies very poor especially when one considers many butchers make their own in the area and could sipply them with proper ones not frozen rubbish. This is all you get here, go elsewhere, please. Oh and it is a long time since they were voted best fish and chip shop by people who obviously do not know what good fish and chips should taste like.
Great place to go if you can't be bothered to cook. Great batter, great chips, great fish, nice mushy peas and the homemade fishcakes are lovely as well. Kids meals are about the right size and the service is quick and friendly. Worth stopping off if you're heading through Belper and feeling peckish.
George’s Tradition is a family run fish and chip restaurant and takeaway that has been in business since 1967. Award winning across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire this chip shop has branched out to other stores in the area and have consistently provided customer satisfaction with spectacular and consistent chip shop foods.
i went with my family and sat in the restaurant , i was greeted by the friendly manager and we were seated we were looked after very well and i had fish and chips and peas yummy they were GORGEOUS! the best i have ever had the staff were very efficient and made us feel very welcome my little girl got crayons and a activity book i enjoyed the whole experience and will definitely go back overall excellent A+++++++++++
I agree with DarrenHolden - although I would go further and say that George's serves the best fish and chips in the area, not just Belper. The takeaway staff are always really polite and helpful, offering true customer service, which is rare enough these days. The restaurant is great, too. Was pleased to see on George's website recently that their chicken is all free range and that they will soon be supporting the Mackerel Mission promoted by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and Jamie Oliver.

When you mention 'fish and chips' and 'Belper' in the same sentence, most people would instantly think of Georges Tradition.
There's a good reason for that. This award winning fish and chip shop is still the place to go whether you want a sit-down meal or just a simple quick fish supper.
The only thing I would say is that if you fancy something a little bit different like a kebab or burger, you'd be better going elsewhere, but for the traditional fish and chip menu it can't be beaten.
